Ephesians

There’s a real sense in which Ephesians is a letter written to help catalyze temple building. Only this time, the temple is not made from stone or wood, and it is not constructed by craftsmen. This temple is built on the foundation of Christ and the apostolic gospel; its materials are the people of God themselves; and the construction happens as each member of this community “builds each other up” in faith. As the Christian community grows in unity and faith and love, they increasingly fulfill God’s purpose for his temple: they become a community in which God dwells and through whom the world can come to know him.
